Getting Started

How do I create my account and set up my profile?
Sign up at theedgejournal.com, complete the onboarding flow (4 steps, ~2 minutes), and select your trading profile. Answer a few questions about your trading style and goals so the platform can personalise your experience from day one.
How do I create my first trade journal entry?
Navigate to Dashboard → Journal → New Trade. Fill in entry/exit price, date, asset, lot size, and notes. Add a screenshot if needed. Your analytics update instantly after saving.
What assets and markets does TheEdgeJournal support?
We support Stocks, Forex (all pairs), Futures (ES, NQ, CL, GC…), Options, Crypto, and CFDs. Multi-asset portfolios are tracked in one unified dashboard.
How do I import trades from my broker?
Go to Journal → Import → select your broker or upload a CSV. We support MetaTrader 4/5, NinjaTrader, TradingView, and generic CSV formats. All trades are matched and deduplicated automatically.
What is the recommended first-week workflow?
Week 1 best practice: (1) Import or log your last 20–30 trades, (2) Run the Pre-Trade Checklist on your next live session, (3) Review your first AI session report, (4) Check your Edge Tracker to identify your strongest setup. This baseline unlocks the most accurate AI insights.
What is the free plan limit?
The free plan includes up to 30 trades per month with basic analytics. Upgrade to Pro for unlimited trades, AI coaching, Edge Tracker, and trade replay.
📓

Trade Journal

What information should I log for each trade?
For maximum analytical value, log: asset, direction (long/short), entry price, exit price, lot size or contracts, stop loss, take profit, setup name, emotional state, screenshot, and post-trade notes. The more context you provide, the more accurate the AI analysis.
How does automatic trade logging work?
Connect your broker via the Import flow or API integration. Trades are pulled automatically at the end of each session. You can also log manually in seconds using the New Trade form — fill price, lots, and outcome; add your stop for R-multiple tracking whenever you like.
How do I attach screenshots to my trades?
On the New Trade or Trade Detail page, click the Screenshot area and upload your chart image. Screenshots are stored securely and displayed in your journal feed and trade replay.
Can I filter and search my journal?
Yes — filter by date range, asset, setup, direction, result (win/loss/breakeven), session time, and R-multiple. Use the search bar to find trades by notes keywords. Filters stack so you can isolate exact trade conditions.
What is the Notes section used for?
Notes capture plans, lessons, analysis, and personal observations that don't fit trade fields. Use them to document market context, mental state, or post-session reflections. Notes are searchable and feed into the AI emotional pattern analysis.
How is PnL calculated?
PnL is calculated from your entry/exit prices and lot size. For futures and CFDs, we apply the correct point value per contract. You can also enter PnL manually if your broker reports it directly. All figures are shown in your account currency.
✅

Pre-Trade Checklist

What is the Pre-Trade Checklist and why should I use it?
The Pre-Trade Checklist is a structured validation flow you run before entering any trade. It ensures your setup meets your rules (market context, entry criteria, risk parameters, and mental state) before you commit capital. Professional traders use pre-trade checklists to eliminate impulsive, low-quality entries.
How do I access and run the checklist?
Go to Dashboard → Pre-Trade Checklist. Work through each section: market context, setup alignment, risk check, and psychology check-in. The AI evaluates your answers and tells you whether your edge is aligned before you trade.
What does 'edge aligned' mean in the checklist result?
'Edge aligned' means your current setup matches your historical winning conditions as tracked in your journal. If the AI flags misalignment, it shows which criteria deviate from your proven edge so you can decide whether to proceed or wait for a better setup.
Can I customise the checklist criteria?
Yes — go to Settings → Checklist to add, remove, or reorder criteria. You can create multiple checklists for different strategies or asset classes and switch between them before each session.
How does the Psychology Check-in work?
The psychology check-in is a short set of daily prompts that track your focus, emotional state, and discipline level. Over time, the AI correlates your mental state scores with trade outcomes to identify conditions in which you trade best — and worst.
📊

Edge Tracker

What is the Edge Tracker?
The Edge Tracker is your statistical command centre. It shows exactly when and why you make money — broken down by setup, asset, session time, day of week, direction, and R-multiple distribution. It turns your journal data into a quantified, replicable trading edge.
What is the Equity Curve and how do I read it?
The equity curve plots your cumulative PnL over time. An upward-sloping curve with controlled drawdowns indicates a positive, consistent edge. Sharp drops signal risk management issues. Use it alongside your win rate and expectancy to evaluate strategy health.
What is Max Drawdown and what is an acceptable level?
Max Drawdown (MDD) is the largest peak-to-trough decline in your equity during a given period. Professional risk standards (and most prop firms) target keeping MDD below 10–20% of account equity. The Edge Tracker displays MDD by day, week, and month.
How is win rate calculated and displayed?
Win Rate = (Winning trades ÷ Total trades) × 100. We display this overall and segmented by asset, setup, time of day, and session — so you can find your highest-probability conditions and focus your trading there.
What is expectancy and why does it matter more than win rate?
Expectancy = (Win Rate × Avg Win) − (Loss Rate × Avg Loss). A positive expectancy confirms your strategy is mathematically profitable over many trades, regardless of individual outcomes. A system with 40% win rate can outperform one with 70% if the average win is significantly larger.
What is R-multiple and how is it tracked?
R-multiple measures each trade outcome in units of initial risk (1R = your stop loss distance × position size). A trade that makes 2× your risk is +2R. Tracking R-multiples normalises results across different position sizes and helps you assess strategy quality independently of account size.
How do I identify my best trading conditions?
Use the Edge Tracker filter panel to slice data by session (London, New York, Asian), day of week, asset, and setup. Look for clusters with win rate above 50% and average R-multiple above 1.0 — those are your highest-edge conditions. Focus your live trading there.

Auto Improvement & AI Coach

What is Auto Improvement?
Auto Improvement is the AI-powered system that automatically reviews your session after each trading day, identifies your weakest points and recurring mistakes, and delivers a specific, prioritised action list — without you needing to analyse anything manually.
How does Auto Improvement differ from the AI Coach?
The AI Coach provides coaching insights and weekly briefs. Auto Improvement is automated and session-level — it runs after every session and produces immediate, concrete actions (e.g. 'Skip trades after 12pm — your data shows a 78% loss rate in that window').
What does an Auto Improvement action look like?
Actions are specific and measurable. Examples: 'Reduce position size on Fridays by 50% — your Friday avg R is −0.8', 'Stop moving your SL on losing trades — you did this 4× this week and it cost 3.2R', 'Skip the first 15 minutes after news — 6/7 trades there were losers.'
How do I track my improvement over time?
The Improvement Dashboard (Dashboard → Auto Improvement) shows your improvement score week-over-week, a history of actions delivered vs. completed, and a chart of recurring mistakes over time. A rising score means you are eliminating weaknesses systematically.
What happens after I mark an action as complete?
The AI monitors your next sessions to verify the behaviour changed. If the mistake recurs, it re-surfaces the action with updated data. If it doesn't recur for 3+ sessions, it's marked resolved and removed from your active list.

The Edge Journal Coach

What is The Edge Journal Coach?
The Edge Journal Coach is a real, experienced trader (10+ years) available to you directly inside the platform. Unlike AI, the Coach provides human judgement, contextual advice, and personalised mentorship based on your actual trade data and goals.
How do I contact my coach?
On the Elite plan, go to Dashboard → Coach to open direct messaging. You can send text or audio voice notes. Your coach reviews your trades, journal notes, and weekly AI reports before responding — so every reply is based on your real performance data.
What can I ask the coach about?
Anything trading-related: strategy refinement, risk management, psychology, prop firm rules, scaling up, interpreting your Edge Tracker data, or reviewing a specific losing streak. The coach is available in any market condition, any time.
How does the coach create my improvement plan?
After reviewing your journal and AI reports, the coach builds a Custom Improvement Plan — a structured, week-by-week programme targeting your specific weak points. Plans follow a professional coaching methodology: assess baseline, set measurable goals, define actions, and review progress.
What is audio message support?
On the Elite plan you can send voice notes to your coach — describe a trade, explain a situation, or ask a question verbally. Your coach listens and replies. This makes communication natural and faster, especially when reviewing complex trade scenarios.
How often does the coach review my trades?
Your coach performs a structured weekly trade review and sends written feedback covering: setup quality, risk management, emotional patterns, and specific recommendations. Between reviews, you can message directly for urgent questions.

Tools & Calculators

What trading tools are available on TheEdgeJournal?
The platform includes: Position Size Calculator, Pre-Trade Checklist, Trading Journal Template, and Psychology Check-in. All tools are integrated with your journal data for a seamless workflow.
How does the Position Size Calculator work?
Go to Dashboard → Position Size Calculator. Enter your account balance, risk percentage per trade, entry price, and stop loss level. The calculator outputs the exact lot size or number of contracts to trade — applying your risk rules precisely every time.
What is the Trading Journal Template?
The Journal Template is a structured format for logging entries, exits, screenshots, and lessons learned. It standardises how you capture each trade so your data is consistent, searchable, and analytically useful from the very first entry.
How do I use the Free Trading Tools without an account?
Visit the Free Tools page (Resources → Free Trading Tools) to access the Position Size Calculator and other tools without signing in. A free account unlocks saving your inputs and integrating results directly into your journal.

Prop Firm & Multi-Account

Can I track multiple prop firm accounts?
Yes — TheEdgeJournal supports multiple accounts in one dashboard. Add each prop firm account under Settings → Accounts. Switch between accounts in the top navigation or view a unified consolidated view across all of them.
How does TheEdgeJournal help me pass prop firm challenges?
The platform tracks all prop firm rules (daily loss limit, max drawdown, minimum trading days) and alerts you in real time if you approach a breach. The AI Coach and Auto Improvement specifically target the disciplines that prop firms assess — consistency, rule-following, and emotional control.
Can I set custom drawdown alerts for prop firm rules?
Yes — in Settings → Risk Alerts, configure thresholds for daily loss limit and total drawdown per account. You receive in-platform and email alerts as you approach the limits, giving you time to stop trading before a violation.
How do I manage funded account payouts and scaling?
Track your funded account P&L and milestone progress in the multi-account dashboard. The Edge Tracker shows which setups are generating the most consistent R across your funded accounts, helping you scale your best strategies with confidence.
